Case Study: Hassyan Sea Water Desalination Project Phase 1 – GeoTon Mega Buoys for Navigation Safety

Project Overview:
The Hassyan Phase 1 SWRO project, part of DEWA’s plan to increase desalination capacity to 730 MIGD by 2030, delivers 180 MIGD of potable water. The project includes key infrastructure such as seawater intake and outfall systems, electrical facilities, and water storage.

The Challenge

Ensuring safe navigation around the seawater intake and outfall areas was critical. The marine environment is exposed to strong currents and tides, requiring durable, highly visible aids to navigation to protect both vessels and essential infrastructure.

The Solution

Geoseas supplied 2.2 m in diameter GeoTon Mega Buoys, engineered for extreme marine conditions. Their large size and bright colors enhance visibility, while robust construction ensures long-term durability. The buoys comply with international maritime safety standards and were deployed strategically to clearly mark safe navigation routes near the desalination plant.

The Result

  • Enhanced maritime safety for vessels operating near the intake and outfall zones
  • Long-lasting, low-maintenance navigation aids capable of withstanding harsh conditions
  • Compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards
  • Support for DEWA’s sustainable water supply expansion plans
